Bamberger Haus Bremen 2011
Julius Bamberger opened his Department Store in Bremen in December 1929. It was the first real big store with nine floors.
In 1937 he fled Germany. In 2007 the Bamberger Haus was renovated and the two missing top floors were added. A permanent exhibition reminds of Julius Bamberger´s life. The building is still a "must see" and is home for the Bremen Community College (Volkshochschule)
On 12 December 2011 I was there for a weekend course in creative writing and I did this sketch during my lunch break.

"Do you know where the Tanzcasino is?", a younger couple asked us, when we just left a restaurant in Bad Bevensen, a small town in the Lueneburg Heath (Lueneburger Heide). "No,sorry, we have no idea, but if there is a good show we would like to join you." And it was a good show by the two actors from Berlin, Ms Emmi and Herr Willnowski. Not what you would call politically correct, but real fun. Sorry, only in German: www.emmi-online.de/
The town of Bad Bevensen in Lower Saxony attracts many retired people because of the healthy spring and the saline waters. This sketch I did during our lunch. I was impressed by this old lady who was having her lunch alone.

The old pump station was the key to proper wastewater treatment. In the 19th century cholera haunted Europe and other places where many people lived. These pumps took care that wastewater and point where they took the drinking water were separate....
Now the pump station is a museum run by volunteers. Artists can perform on a theater stage with a perfect sound and light system. This sketch I did before the show of Alvaro Solar started.

Sunday evening in the Restaurant Theatro
Today we visited the Sunday Restaurant Theatro and had a cappucino. It is named after the Theater in Bremen and is located in the first floor.
The unusual excellent weather still suprises me. Sunday evenings sometimes feel strange to me as the weekend slowly fades away and my mind starts to think about the next days.
But today we celebrated the day with a huge waffle with cherries and cream on top.....delicious.

Saturday, 12 November2011: Today seemed to be a perfect day for sketching, blue crisp sky but cold. For Bremen the typical weather in November is rainy and cold and dark, this can make you depressive. This year November and October were unusually dry and warm.
I was sitting with an espresso in the coffee bar just on the famous Sielwall intersection. The coffee grinder was grinding for 20 minutes making a sound as if a cat was inside. The music coming from the loudspeakers gave the background drums and two girls were happily chatting some details of their life as I tried to do this sketch.
Just to give you an impression

Helsinki Sea Horse Kiosk 2011
The final destination of our sailing trip from Stockholm was Helsinki. The weather was subtropical and we found this Kiosk in the old Art Deco district. The bartender Wesq told me that this Kiosk was bulit in the 1950s and is the only one with a beer licence. And he is proud of it. He told me also Helsinki ranks on position 19 of the most expensive places of the planet.

Sunny Sunday at the Weserterrassen, Bremen
We had our delicious pumkin soup. Due to the high pressure system we had a sunny Sunday, 6 March 2011 and almost everybody enjoyed the sunshine and the crisp blue sky over Bremen. The Buergerhaus Weserterrassen on the banks of the Weser river attracts many pedestrians. The people running this restaurant also offer many weekend courses like creative writing for the public. Some pictures at Humboldt Schlueter´s
On 29 January 2011 was the opening of my art exhibition at Humboldt Schlueter´s in Bremen. To me it was a very impressive evening. Some 50 people came.
